In this tutorial you’ll learn how to make concentrated liquid mordants that are then thickened making them perfect for painting or printing on fabric. Anywhere the fabric has been painted with a mordant paint will receive the dye much more readily in the pot, giving a print! This tutorial is suitable for every natural dye (except indigo which requires different methods to achieve patterns- see the Soy Paste Tutorial) and can create a whole spectrum of color from one singular dye such as Madder- the classic dyestuff employed in the tutorial.
