Weld flowers & leaves create electric yellows & shades of green (with iron modification). Weld contains a higher concentration of plant metabolites responsible for their yellow color dye known to be more durable & resistant to fading than all other types of flavonoids. The dyes produced by Weld can vary in the cool yellow color family of almost fluorescent yellow to olive green and brown- all depending on your choice of mordant, fiber preparation, and concentration of color bath.
My favorite uses for weld includes ecoprinting & making lake pigments with leftover dyebaths for excellent stable yellow pigment.
Weld is a biennial ( requires multiple growing seasons for flowers ) so you can either direct sow seeds in late summer & then allow the rosettes to overwinter -or- sow seeds in late winter/spring & plants will bloom the following year in spring. Seeds can take up to a month to sprout. Do not cover seeds with soil when sowing, because they require light for germination. If starting in pots to transplant to the ground- transfer carefully to not disturb the taproot which can stunt the plant.
